Some nice people have said some nice things about us. We'll share them with you if that's OK

Here's what folk superstar Ashley Hutchings had to say about us after hearing our EP

'I love the jingly jangly 12-string guitars and the bass playing is excellent! You have your own unique sound.

The playing is tight and solid in each song on the EP.

In all my years as a songwriter I would never have dreamed of rhyming 'America' with 'terrier'. Genius!'

From Beverley Folk Festival

'#BevFest 2016 Highlight: The Ale Marys. We had the pleasure of hosting the re-appearance of this band originally formed in 1996!'

From our good friend Jon Palmer

'Fine original songs with witty lyrics and hook lines all over the place. Feel good music at it's very best.'

From Dave Reid, Langdale Charity Folk Festival Organiser

The Ale Marys are guaranteed to get any audience toe tapping and feeling good. Excellent musicianship underpins their unique brand of “folk and jingly jangly pop”, much self penned with the addition of a few choice covers. We have a mixed audience at the Langdale Festival, ranging from committed folkies to climbers and walkers who simply wish to be entertained. The band certainly got the place jumping, going down well with everyone and it will be a pleasure to welcome them back in September 2020.

Respected music industry journalist, biographer and reviewer Nigel Schofield had this to say about our CD-EP

‘There’s something about Marys’

'The sound, always joyous fun, puts one in mind of early Byrds, Beatles (particularly the closing track Lost Again); She Wants has the observational wit of a Jarvis Cocker song; Don’t Look At Me could be a bit of classic Al Stewart with young Richard Thompson on guitar.'
